What intermodal transport means
The concept intermodal transport (or combined transport) is used to describe freight transport in which freight containers are adapted to enable several different types of vehicle to be used to move goods.
Tran loading is therefore fast and damage to freight is kept to an absolute minimum.
Intermodal transport is an efficient way of exploiting the advantages of each different means of transport.
Intermodal transport involves the physical movement of freight, the transmission of information and reporting related to the freight transports within one system. An integrated door-to-door transport chain involves at least two means of transport. Integration of the different means of transport is done at the terminals. All intermodal logistics will therefore be based on efficient terminal operation, where Tran loading/lifting between lorries, ships and rail can be done quickly and simply.
CargoNet uses a shuttle net between 14 intermodal terminals in Norway and between Norway and Sweden, where Trans loading between lorries, ships and rail is performed quickly and simply.
From 1st of April Real Rail takes over all our domestic transport in Sweden from Nässjö and Gothenburg to Umeå and Luleå. CargoNet owns 40% in the new company that will conduct intermodal transport by rail in Sweden.
Our partners, Hupac in Switzerland and KombiVerkehr in Germany secure us access to an international shuttle net through Europe.
